Is WhatIMade really free?

Yes, completely free. No hidden fees, no credit card required, no trial period. Upload your website and it stays online forever at no cost.

Do I need an account?

Yes. We use Google sign-in so you can come back and edit, update, or take your site down anytime. It is the only way to make sure your site stays yours. Sign-in takes about three seconds.

Can I update my site after publishing?

Yes. Sign in, drop in a new version, and the live site updates. Every past version is kept so you can go back if you want to.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. You can connect your custom domain to your WhatIMade site through your account dashboard, or buy a new domain directly in the app. We pass the registrar's price through plus a flat £7/month service fee from us.

What happens if I cancel?

Your free sites stay online forever. If you have a custom domain and want to cancel, you keep the domain and can point it elsewhere anytime.

What happens if WhatIMade shuts down?

Every publish also copies the files into your own Google Drive, in a folder you control. If WhatIMade disappears tomorrow, those files are still in your Drive. We also keep a cold zipped archive of every site on Cloudflare R2 and run a monthly restore test that picks a random site, unzips it, and verifies it still opens. The numbers are live on whatimade.app/durability.

How do I leave WhatIMade and take my site with me?

Delete the site from your dashboard. It sends a confirmation link to your email, waits seven days, then removes our copy. The folder in your Google Drive is untouched so you keep every file. If you bought a domain through us, you keep the domain and can point it anywhere.

What if I lose access to my Google account?

Your published sites stay online either way. The dashboard login and the Drive copy both follow the Google account, so if you lose the account you lose in-app control of those sites and access to that Drive folder. That is why we encourage downloading your Drive folder periodically: you then have every file on your own machine, independent of any single sign-in.

How is this free?

We built our infrastructure from scratch on technology that costs us almost nothing to run. Other website builders charge you monthly because their systems are expensive to operate. Ours are not. That is the whole secret.

You can create unlimited websites, all free, forever. The only thing that costs money is if you want a custom web address like mybakery.com instead of mybakery.whatimade.app. Domain registrars charge a yearly fee for those, and we pass that cost straight through plus a flat £7/month from us for handling setup, security, and renewals.
